Immigration and registration:

Citizens of the European UnionNon EU-Citzens
Nationals of EU/EFTA countries: no visa required to enter Austria.
All EU citizens have to bring their Passport or Identity Card to Austria.

Once in Austria all students need to register at City Hall with the registration form they receive at the Student Residence.

You will be supported by our tutors during this process.

Important: Before departure you have to deregister at City Hall.
Not deregistering could lead to problems with future immigration
and is against the law.

Nationals of non-EU/EFTA countries: check visa requirements with the Austrian Embassy in your country of residence.

Click her for more information

Also check the website of your respective Austrian Embassy. The embassy website generally posts a list of documents to bring to the visa appointment. Schedule visa appointments well in advance!

UK citizens need only the passport and a study confirmation (which you will receive during your application process at PHOOE) if they plan to stay below 6 months. Make sure that your passport is valid 6 months longer than your intended stay!

You will be supported by our tutors during this process.

Insurance for you stay in Austria:

Citizens of the European UnionNon EU-Citzens

All citzens of the EU have to take their Eletronic Health Card to Austria. Then they can use the services of the Public Health Service which is generally very good in Austria. Be aware that the general EU-insurance does not cover any costs of transfer to your home country in a serious case! If you want to have that covered, you need to make an additional travel insurance! Tipp: check your credit card - it might include a travel insurance, which covers costs like that and check the regulations from bank to bank!

Non EU-Citizens are themselves responsible for their insurance coverage! Please check with your insurance at home, if their is any agreement between your country and Austria!
This is the case for instance for students coming from Turkey - click here to download the necessary insurance transfer form!

Probably you will need an additional travel insurance! Credit Card insurances will probably not include the general cover which is necessary, nevertheless some cards like gold cards do! The regulations for credit cards can differ from bank to bank even for the same card! For aproxinately 50,-- you can get a student insurance with the Austrian Social Security System "Oberösterreichische Gebietskrankenkasse" (you might get a cheaper travel insurance at home!) Please keep in mind that you are self responsible for your insurance and the costs would be very high, if you need treatment by a doctor and you do not have proper insurance!

Important:

The accident- and liability insurance which is included in the compulsory student union membership in Austria gives you insurance cover for all activities that have to do with the university programme! This insurance is valid nearly world wide, except in the USA, Australia and Canada! But be aware that this is not a health insurance!
